Less than one day after details of Celebrity Cruises’ new class of ship, Celebrity Edge, were revealed to the public, a spokesman for the line says lobbying is already underway to see the ship – or one of its identical sisters – sent to cruise in Australian waters.

Speaking at a launch event in Sydney last night, the line’s National Head of Sales Peter McCormack said getting one of the four forthcoming Celebrity Edge class vessels deployed to the Australian region will be a priority.

The design of Celebrity Edge is being touted by many industry experts as the most exciting new ship in over a decade. Among the highlights are revolutionary new features such as the widely documented “magic carpet” platform which will levitate to four levels between Decks 2 and 16, providing an easier embarkation point for those using tender boats and offering extra ocean-side space to expand guest capacity at many dining and entertainment venues.

Celebrity Cruises first started sailing to Australia in 2007 with the now retired Celebrity Century and since then has seen its popularity grow tenfold, spiking particularly since the maiden arrival of Celebrity Solstice a few years later – one of the largest and most acclaimed ships to ever call Australia its home. Popularity for the line, which touts a unique “Modern Luxury” focus, is now at an all-time high.

Celebrity Solstice, which itself was once regarded as the most innovative ship to sail Australian waters, has cultivated a dedicated local following, with many Australian travellers following the ship to its off-season winter home in Alaska and also seeking out cruises on its fleet-mates on global voyages to destinations such as Antarctica, Asia and The Caribbean.

Celebrity Solstice will be ready to showcase its new features from the middle of November 2016.

Bookings opened yesterday for Celebrity Edge, which will sail its inaugural season in The Caribbean. Aussies have already responded, with the first booking of Australian guests occurring within an hour of yesterday’s launch.
