Undoubtedly known more widely for its premium brand of big ship cruising all around the world, you may not be aware that since 2001, Celebrity Cruises has also operated a small expedition vessel known as the Celebrity Xpedition, cruising year-round in the rugged and picturesque Galapagos Islands, off the coast of South America.
The ongoing popularity of this division has led the company to add two new small ships to the fleet. Once the two new ships – the 16-passenger Celebrity Xploration and 48-guest Celebrity Xperience enter service from March 2017, the fleet of three will offer a variety of itineraries – ranging in duration from seven to 15 nights – from which travellers can choose for their adventures in this part of the world.
After recently taking ownership of the vessels, Celebrity sent both in for a significant upgrade and refurbishment to bring them up to the same premium standard its big ships are known. This work has now been completed and the covers have been taken off for viewers to see inside for the first time.
Celebrity’s expanded expedition fleet will soon offer six different itineraries calling at a range of over 15 islands and more than 30 ports of call. They will cater to between 16 and 100 passengers per sailing, complemented by high-quality dining designed by a Michelin-starred chef and a host of shore excursions led by expert naturalists, marine biologists and more.
Each stateroom is furnished with Celebrity’s premium mattresses, pillows and linens which it claims is the most comfortable bed in the Galapagos region. Cabins also offer a private ensuite, LCD television and high-speed internet service across the ship. What do you think?
