Holland America Line has revealed MS Nieuw Statendam will become the name bestowed on the second of its two new Pinnacle-class ships and sister to MS Koningsdam upon the vessel’s launch in 2018.
It will be the sixth ship in HAL’s 143-year history to carry the Statendam name, the last being the former MS Statendam which now sails for P&O Cruises as Pacific Eden.
Construction on Nieuw Statendam will begin in the 2016 Northern Hemisphere summer and will take place at Fincantieri Marghera in Italy, the same yard which built its sister. Like Koningsdam, the line’s next new ship will cater to 2,650 passengers and will offer many of the same features along with a number of new ideas yet to be detailed.
Holland America Line will employ many of the same layouts which feature on Koningsdam, envisaged by chief interior designer Adam D. Tihany. The new ship will also feature public areas from the mind of Bjorn Storbraaten, who has both independently and closely with Tihany on a number of other HAL vessels.
MS Niuew Statendam is earmarked to set sail around November 2018.
