Locals will help Princess Cruises guests find hidden attractions.

Guests on Princess Cruises will soon benefit from the knowledge of local residents in the ports they visit, with the line to significantly expand its range of shore excursions using this in-depth destination experience.

Due to launch mid-year, the line’s ‘Global Partners + Local Experts’ program will launch, in which it will liaise with port partners, tourism boards and tour operators to all share insider tips on the places guests can see during their stay based on their own experience. Guided tours will also be able to take travellers deeper into their destination using this knowledge, uncovering hidden gems and highlights that might otherwise not be visited.

In addition, passengers choosing to make their own way will have access to more information to help them with their own self-guided time ashore. Guests will have access to walking maps and guides showcasing “cool things” to see and locate while in port. In addition, authentic port welcomes and farewell when the ship arrives and departs will provide an end-to-end snapshot of the local culture for guests.

Through this network of local guidance, Princess has produced a series of videos which will be available to passengers onboard as well as delivered pre-cruise through direct email contact. At this stage, the program applies only to cruises in the European regions of the Baltic, Scandinavia & Russia and the Mediterranean.

Some examples of the new program include:

  • Experience Florence – Utilising the expertise of Giovanni Spadoni, director of the Port of Livorno, guests will be able to learn all about the Tuscany region of Italy and some of the hidden secrets known only by locals. View Giovanni’s video here:

  • Experience Helsinki – Brother pairing Kim and Jan Long have been tour operators in the Finnish capital of Helsinki for over 20 years. As experts in the popular Baltic port, they can tell guests about the Baltic way of life and some of the best places to see. See their video:
