Celebrity Solstice cruising in Santorini

Shore excursions guided by ship crew familiar with the destination, market tours with the chef, winery tours with the sommelier and “bucket list tours” are among a new range of European Destination Experiences launched this week by Celebrity Cruises.

The new selection is aimed at taking guests deeper into a destination, away from the crowds associated with the well-trodden path and behind the scenes to experience a city or town like a local. Tours are available now and have been launched in time with the imminent start of the peak Northern Hemisphere summer cruising season.

Tours have been listed in categories including:

The Real Greece

Guests can go onshore in Greece, with tours personally designed by some of the ship’s Greek officers who will help guests see areas in which they have either grown up, current reside or spent a significant amount of time. These tours are available in seven different Greek ports including the idyllic islands of Santorini, Mykonos and more.

 Uniquely Celebrity

Bucket list experiences usually seen in the movies are also on tap to Celebrity Cruises guests in this category, including taking the wheel of a luxury Lamborghini or Ferrari for a drive along the French Riviera, including the famous coastal switchbacks down the mountain. Also on offer is the chance to visit secluded beaches in Mykonos aboard a private yacht, catching the sunset over the Poseidon Temple in Athens or visiting the Organic Winery of Assimomitis with the ship’s sommelier.

James Bond style sports cars are available to Celebrity Cruises guests.
Just like James Bond, guests can drive the French Riviera in a luxury sportscar.

Chef’s Market Discoveries

Foodies among the passenger contingent will be able to learn more about the local European flavours on these tours, accompanying some of the ship’s onboard chefs to visit markets and shops, where ingredients will be inspected, purchased and prepared for a special private dinner that evening. The experience will allow guests to be involved in the entire process of selecting fresh produce and seeing it become part of their evening meal.

Experiences on offer include the ability to taste local Greek delicacies at a family tavern in the Greek island of Rhodes, cooking a traditional Cretan dish in the Botanical Gardens of Askordalos in Crete and learning how traditional Italian items such as limoncello and mozzarella cheese are made during visits to Naples, the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento in Italy.

A variety of promotional incentives are still available for bookings made by 31 March 2016, including free upgrades from Celebrity’s ‘Go Big’ pricing tier to the ‘Go Better’ level, which affords their choice of two perks for their stateroom such as a free beverage package, paid gratuities, unlimited internet onboard or US$150 onboard credit. Bookings made for Suites will automatically receive all four of the aforementioned perks.
