The Layne Beachley Foundation used Carnival Cruise Line’s “Carnival Legend” as the venue for a fundraiser of a different kind last weekend, with the seven-time world surfing champion inviting guests to ‘Beat the Beachley’.
In other words, guests have been challenged by the surfing legend turned entrepreneur and philanthopist to try and beat Beachley’s ‘Green Thunder’ waterslide time. The ship’s amenities provided the perfect backdrop on what is the steepest and fastest slide at sea. It was the first time the 88,500 ton vessel has been used for such an event since making its Australian debut in 2014.
After all the fun had come to an end on the top deck, guests attending the fundraising event were invited to a magical ‘Seuss at Sea’ lunch in the main dining room. The ship’s resident ‘Dr. Seuss’ characters ensured it was “fun to have fun” for all.
The culmination of the event saw Beachley’s foundation announce a doubling of Scholarship Programs in 2016 as part of its “Aim for the Stars” program. The increase will see a record 40 girls and women afforded the opportunity to continue with their educational pursuits.
