Massimo Mele and his mother Maria welcome Carnival Spirit guests to a special BBQ

Hobart-born chef Massimo Mele whipped up a frenzy recently on Carnival Cruise Line, hosting an interactive cooking demonstration with a difference on a recent Australia Day round-trip cruise from Sydney to Tasmania.

The award-winning Italian chef, who resides in Naples, took guests through some of the hints and tricks of designing and creating Italian dishes, with the sessions also including a huge amount of fun as guests, especially children, provided their own unique taste ideas which were turned into some super-tasty concoctions.

Among the sessions hosted by Mele was a pizza-making class which predictably was a huge hit with passengers as ideas including Nutella, ricotta and banana and whether they would make good toppings on a pizza were debated, tried and tested.

The chef also hosted a very special shore excursion in Hobart, escorting a select few guests to his private home where an Australia Day BBQ with all the trimmings was hosted, prepared and served along with Mele’s mother Maria.

Staterooms are still available at a special sale price from $599 per person twin share for travellers keen to take part in the next five-night voyage with Massimo Mele to Tasmania. The cruise will depart Sydney on 05 April, visiting Port Arthur and Hobart, and cabins are available at this price until 28 March.
