Holland America Line will significantly expand its range of colourful and tasty cocktails and alcoholic beverages across its fleet, having signed a partnership agreement with Master Mixologist and newly inducted ‘Who’s Who’ inductee to the James Beard Foundation, Dale DeGroff. The new menu designed by DeGroff will be presented and served in the Gallery Bar on the 13 ships that make up the Holland America Line fleet.
Debuting onboard MS Eurodam this month and gradually expanding to the entire fleet through the first few months of 2016, DeGroff will roll out a menu featuring items such as Gallery Gimlet, Hemingway Daiquiri, Whiskey and Joe, Another Shade of Greyhound and the popular “Slightly Less Than Perfect” Perfect Manhattan. Another addition, The Ritz Cocktail, is a champagne cocktail presented with a burst of flamed orange peel and is one of the most popular drinks at New York’s famous Rainbow Room, where DeGroff once worked.
The menu builds on an existing pledge by Holland America Line to offer cruise passengers with “an exceptional food and beverage experience”. DeGroff, also known as “King Cocktail” focuses on the presentation of his drinks as his art form as well as introducing brand new creations from his own expertise.
“For many guests, there’s nothing better than relaxing with a well-made, unique cocktail after a long day of sightseeing or before dinner, and adding a master mixologist to our team gives us the diversity we seek in creating the most robust food and beverage program at sea,” Holland America Line President Orlando Ashford commented.
As well as designing the menu itself, DeGroff will oversee staff training to ensure mixologists onboard each HAL ship are skilled to the standard required to create each drink to order. DeGroff is the author of The Essential Cocktail and The Craft of the Cocktail and the Founding President of the Museum of the American Cocktail.
