French cruise line Ponant's newest vessel Le Lyrial

Social entertaining is encouraged on board and the fabulous Dining Room Manager – Sami Saidi, took great pleasure in making in-suite dining a memorable experience. Aboard Le Lyrial, the full restaurant menu is available for room service to all suites and staterooms in addition to one of the most comprehensive room service menus I have seen.

Le Lyrial is equipped with two dining venues to serve these delectable French feasts. These include La Comete, a more casual buffet/grill dining space located by the pool, at the rear of the ship, on Deck Six, while a magnificent formal dining room, Le Celeste, is located on Deck Two, catering to the more formal occasions.

Le Celeste takes on beautiful ocean views from large windows lining its exterior, with the views playing into delightful dark blue and purple tones on the ceilings and in furnishings. Le Lyrial’s all-inclusive nature sees no cover charge applied to either venue.

Ocean view dining on Ponant's Le Lyrial
Guests can take their meals on the rear deck of Le Lyrial, eating while watching the ocean roll by.

A very knowledgeable young Sommelier, Vincent, successfully integrates Ponant’s complimentary selection of French wines into a wine journey throughout our dining experiences, providing us also with the option to discuss and purchase higher end bottles should we wish.

The extensive open bar on offer provides a selection of standard wines, beer, cocktails and spirits in addition to most non alcoholic beverages. Well trained bartenders take pleasure in mixing up off-menu delights that fall under the open bar package – our favourite was a tropical composition of fruit juices and vodka perfectly consumed by the pool or as a pre dinner drink.

Experts suggest quality wines
Wines have been expertly advised by the onboard sommerlier.

It’s no surprise that in the vessel’s three bars, a laid back almost Australian style of service was used – many of the bar attendants we spoke with had spent time in Australian waters with the likes of Celebrity Cruises and P&O. This local knowledge and experience also made them well aware of Australian preferences, leading to often correct predictions as to our tastes in wines, suggesting some wonderful bottles that assisted in maximising our time spent onboard gliding over the endless ocean.
