World-famous French-Canadian entertainment brand Cirque du Soleil will make its debut on cruise ships as part of a new global partnership with European operator MSC Cruises.
In a long-term, multi-million dollar agreement, the multi-sensory brand of immersive, innovative artistic illusions and death-defying stunts will design and create a range of new shows exclusively for performances on MSC’s forthcoming Meraviglia class of ship.
The first of MSC’s next-generation of cruise ships – aptly titled MSC Meraviglia – will sail in the MSC heartland of the Mediterranean from June 2017.
To cater to Cirque’s unique brand of entertainment, MSC Cruises is throwing the rulebook of traditional theatre design out the window. The line has unveiled what it claims to be a “first of its kind at sea” in theatre design, with a circular stage in the centre of the room, encircled by audience seating. Cirque’s performances will take place twice each evening, six nights a week, complemented by meal service during the show.
Further information about the new Cirque shows coming to MSC Cruises, including performance details and names, will be released at a later date.
